SO YA WANNABE!

So you think ya wanna go in a boat.
It's a great idea to stay afloat.

Not a problem I hear you cry.
Well not in my case, I sigh.

Got my trunks, deck, paddles and cag.
Yea I've seen the photos in the glossy mags.

Smiley faces, looking so pleased.
As they take to the water with the utmost ease.

I can do that, I thought with glee.
Well, we'll see.

Got the courage now to go.
As I head off to Peaks to have a row.

The pool looks tame when you go for a swim.
But in a kayak, it now looks grim.

Is that boat stable? Can it take my weight?
Someone told me that this sport's great.

Well now I'm not so sure,
It doesn't have the same allure

I'm in the boat now, I'm amazed.
Mind you I feel a bit dazed.

Low brace turns take lots of tries.
That’s it! No - I’ve capsized.

Whilst under the water I am gripped with fear.
Breathing is a luxury I hold quite dear.

Coughing and spluttering and gasping for air.
Whilst everyone rows past without a care.

They make it look all so easy,
Is it jealousy, I think they look cheesy.

I’m now looking like a drowning rat
Some say even a bit of a prat.

The trick is now to stay upright.
Or not go too fast, so I take flight.

But trying to breath with your head submerged.
Is not something I recommend, it's a bit of dirge.

So the moral of my story is clear
And one I feel you must hear.

To be a good sailor, or manage a boat.
It’s a good idea to keep a float.

'Cause kayaking is not as easy as it seems.
But hey we've all got dreams.
